Now, to properly enjoy, a walking tour should be alone. If you go with a company, or even in pairs, it is no longer a walking tour in anything but name; it is something else and more like a picnic. বিদেশী শাসকের অত্যাচার থেকে মুক্তির জন্য, আমাদের স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রামে যে শত শত তরুণ অকাতরে হাসিমুখে আহুতি দিয়ে গেছেন – ক্ষুদিরাম, যতীন দাস থেকে মাস্টারদা সূর্য সেন পর্যন্ত, বিনয়-বাদল-দীনেশ থেকে মানকুমার পর্যন্ত সেই সব অগণিত শহীদদের কথা আজ আমাদের স্মরণ নেই। ভুলে গেছি তাঁদের অকুণ্ঠ ত্যাগের কথা, তাঁদের অবিশ্বাস্য অসীম সাহসের কথা, তাঁদের দৃঢ় চরিত্র ও নিষ্ঠার কথা তাঁদের নির্মম অত্যাচার সহ্য করার কথা। তাঁরাই তো স্বাধীনতা লাভের পথের প্রথম প্রদীপ জ্বালিয়ে রেখে গিয়েছেন। আজ আমাদেরই মন থেকে তাঁরা নিঃশেষে মুছে গেছেন। ভবিষ্যতের ইতিহাসের পাতায় হয়তো তাঁদের স্বাক্ষর আর কোনদিন খুঁজেও পাওয়া যাবে না। এঁদের অকাতর অমূল্য প্রাণোৎসর্গের কথা কেউ স্মরণ করবে না, জানবে না ।
